Komeja's Words
Voices Across Cultures

BIO
Born and raised in Kenya, Mohamed Komeja is a Swahili fiction author, interpreter, and language educator dedicated to storytelling and cultural connection.
Writing primarily in Kiswahili, Komeja creates plays, poems, short stories, and novels that explore identity, memory, tradition, and the evolving human experience. His work reflects a deep respect for language as both art and bridge between cultures.
Beyond writing, he is passionate about bridging worlds through language. As a professional interpreter fluent in Swahili, Norwegian, and English, he helps people understand and appreciate each other’s perspectives.
Teaching is another extension of his commitment to language. Through structured Swahili lessons, he helps international students engage not only with vocabulary and grammar, but with the cultural depth embedded in the language itself.
At the heart of Komeja’s words is a simple belief:
Language connects us.
Stories sustain us.
Recently his stage play Picha, which was brought to life on stage in 2025 at both the Kenya National Theatre and Alliance Francaise in Nairobi earned two prestigious Kenya Theatre Awards in 2025: Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role and Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role. He was also nominated for Best Playwright – Original Script, recognition that continues to strengthen his commitment to creating and promoting stories that resonate deeply with audiences. Through social media, he love sharing his creative works and engaging in conversations that cross borders.
